Summer in the City

It has been exceptionally hot lately. Unfortunately we could not go to the seaside- 

Instead  I had a wonderful day in town (Tampere) with our son and grandson. 

And a lake is ok when sea is not available:)

Maa / Earth

 

  

Here in the North April is the time of year the earth is naked. 

The snow is gone but there is hardly any green to be seen yet.

So I think it is the perfect time for the theme:

EARTH

 .. it is the theme for this week´s  drawing challenge.

I feel closest to earth when working with clay. 

It gives me the feeling of the eternity and on the other hand keeps me down to earth. 

I think clay is  the most feminine and timeless media in art.

It is strong and fragile at the same time -  and it has got the will of its own as well.. 

In the pictures there can be seen two of my works of clay 

photographed  in the garden. 

 The tiny spots of lichen are almost the only colorful objects in my garden at the moment.

In the middle there is one of my recent wood cuts which has not got any name yet. 

Anyway, it also has got something to do with the earth, water and spring.

And I am sorry, there are - again - no drawings in my post, hope this will do:)

Huhtikuussa maa on paljaimmillaan. 

Ainoat väriläiskät pihalla ovat jäkälätäplät sammaloituneissa kivissä.

Maa on teemana tämän viikkoisessa piirustushaasteessa. 

Tosin en nyt piirtänyt mitään (taaskaan) mutta kaikki kuvat liittyvät teemaan. 

Kuten aiemminkin olen kirjoittanut blogissani
koen savea työstäessäni  yhteyden maahan ja johonkin ikiaikaiseen. 

Savi on  voimakastahtoinen ja samalla herkkä materiaali, hyvin naisellinen, kuin äiti maa itse.

Keskellä oleva puupiirros on yksi viimeisimmistä töistäni.
Se ei ehkä ole valmiskaan, nimeä sillä ei ainakaan vielä ole, mutta maa-vesi-teemaan se liittyy kuitenkin

It is a foggy day but I know the spring is coming  some day. 

I have done some spring cleaning like a good homekeeper does at this time of a year.

But mostly I have been organizing my thoughts.

Maailmalle

Talvi on kauneimmillaan ja parhaimmillaan.

Tytär on lähdössä Tukholmaan opiskelemaan puoleksi vuodeksi. 

Pakkaaminen on vielä vaiheessa, kaverit ovat varustaneet hänet matkaan Sisu-askilla ja suomalaisella suklaalla, huoneeseen jäävät hänen  vanhat taaperoaikaiset mekkonsa.. 

Juurihan hän oli pieni!

Vaikka olen iloinen ja ylpeä hänestä, mulle tuli haikea olo ja tunnelma on kuin  Maria Wiikin maalauksessa "maailmalle" ..

I love winter on days like these: fluffy, pure white snow, it is sooo beautiful!

The dancing daughter is leaving Finland for a half year studies in Stockholm, Sweden. 

There are dresses from her chilhood hanging in her room. I feel it was only yesterday she was wearing them. Time flies!

I am happy and proud of her but I will miss her.. 

I remember an old painting by Maria Wiik, there is a mother watching her daughter leaving home:

Kultturikodissa on pölyä

Nautin tavallisesta, hiljaisesta talvi-illasta nauttien Lady Grey teetä, katsellen vanhoja valokuvia kauan sitten olleista talvista. Ketään ei ole kotona, mutta olen hyvässä seurassa: seinällä ilahduttavat vahvojen naistaiteilijoitten teokset.
Laila Pullisesta kirjoitin aiemmin blogissani.
Assi on ainoa näistä kolmesta, jonka tunnen henkilökohtaisesti.
Hänellä on usein mainioita antiikin lauseita ja teemoja mukana teoksissa kuten tässäkin : kulttuurikodissa on aina pölyä!
Arja Deckerin teoksiin ihastuin aikoinaan raumalaisessa galleriassa.
.. Ja koska TV.stä ei taaskaan tule mitään, kuuntelen musiikkia, jota esittää neljäs upea naistaiteilija..
